Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE), more commonly known as Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), is an effective treatment for women suffering from the symptoms of uterine fibroid and adenomyosis.

The treatment is performed in an ambulatory office based surgical center, with moderate sedation, and under real time X-ray guidance called fluoroscopy.

Through a single tiny nick at the groin, a catheter is inserted into the artery to access the right and left uterine artery. After the fibroid(s) (and adenomyosis) is identified, small particles are inserted to block off perfusion to the fibroid and adenomyosis tissue, thereby, eliminating the symptoms.

Women can feel the effective result as early as the next cycle.

Since its inception in the early 1990’s, UAE was and is the most well researched and documented treatment for symptomatic uterine fibroid(s). Numerous large clinical trials from around the world have proven UAE’s effectiveness and safety.

Ontario Multicenter Trial (Canada) 2003; FIBROID Registry (United States) 2005-2008; EMMY Trial (Netherlands) 2005-2008; HOPEFUL Study (United Kingdom) 2007.

Non-surgical treatment for adenomyosis is challenging, oftentimes ineffective, resulting in hysterectomy. Uterine Artery Embolization became the recommended uterus sparing non-surgical alternative.
